More about our Mountains

Camelback Mountain (elevation: 2,704 ft., 824 m) in Phoenix, Arizona looms large in views across the Valley. It appears to have the form of a resting camel from the north and south.

Camelback Mountain has two trails Echo Canyon Trail and Cholla Trail. Both lead to the summit and have stunning views of the surrounding Valley

Echo Canyon Trail is is accessed on the west side of the mountain through the Paradise Valley area.  It is 1.14 miles (1900 m) to the peak, ascending 1,280 ft. (390 m). This is a double black diamond rated trail, meaning it is extremely challenging with an uneven path steep elevation gains

The Cholla Trail, on the east side, is currently closed for trail rehabilitation and relocation of the trailhead. Check our news page for updated information on the progress. When open, it is 1.14 miles (1900 m) to the top, ascending 1,280 ft. (390 m). This is also a double black diamond rated trail

Piestewa Peak, formerly Squaw Peak, (elevation: 2,610 ft., 796 m) is the second highest point in the Phoenix Mountains. Its central Phoenix location and slightly more regular path make it a popular workout spot

Piestewa Peak Summit Trail is just one of the many trails in the Phoenix Mountain Preserves. It has an elevation gain of 1,208 ft. (368 m) in 1.2 miles (1931 m)
